Composer, arranger, educator, curator and administrator Christian McBride, has been one of the most important and omnipresent figures in the jazz world for 20 years. A Grammy Award winner, he is just shy of 40 years old and already one of the most recorded bassists in jazz. Equally adept on acoustic and electric bass, McBride is the premier bassist on today’s jazz and pop scene and is the first choice as collaborator for everyone from Sting and Billy Joel to Sonny Rollins, Pat Metheny, Chick Corea and more. He has performed and recorded with Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson, Herbie Hancock, Keith Jarrett, Diana Krall, John McLaughlin, James Brown, Carly Simon, and Queen Latifah to name a few, as well as fronting his own acoustic, jazz, fusion and funk ensemble, “The Christian McBride Band” since 2000. In 2007, McBride decided to create his quintet, Inside Straight, out of a desire to play in a group that focused on straight ahead, acoustic jazz. The group features his old friends, pianist Eric Reed, alto saxophonist Steve Wilson, and drummer Carl Allen, plus vibraphonist Warren Wolf, one of McBride’s former students. Their debut CD, Kind Of Brown, produced by McBride, is a collection of hard swing-to-bluesy groove tunes that McBride says he put together to give the members of his new ensemble “something to sink their teeth into.” $35/$30 Members & Students (No Member Passes) |
