Pianist, singer and composer Mose Allison, has been a major influence on musicians of the last 50 years and has been touring and recording for at least that long. His songs have been recorded by The Who, Van Morrison, Bonnie Raitt, Elvis Costello, The Clash and Diana Krall to name a few, and his singular style, a unique blending of jazz and blues, and his profound lyrical wit, mark him as a true American original. After a 12 year recording hiatus he is back with The Way of the World on Anti Records, produced by Joe Henry. Born in 1927 on his grandfather’s farm in the Mississippi Delta, Allison discovered that he could play the piano “by ear” and began “picking’ out” blues and boogie tunes he heard on the local jukebox. He went on to play and record with jazz greats Stan Getz, Al Cohn, Zoot Sims and Gerry Mulligan as well as with his own Mose Allison Trio. An admirer of jazz masters Bud Powell and Lenny Tristano, he also learned from composers such as Bartok, Ives, Hindemith and Ruggles. Mose Allison will be accompanied by his long time associate, Cerrillos drummer Pete Amahl, and bassist Chuck Metcalf.

A self-taught singer, Patti Littlefield has extensive experience performing many types of music— from folk to jazz and blues. She has worked as a studio singer on both coasts (New York and Los Angeles) and has performed locally with Lewis Winn, David Parlato, Dennis Soto, and Cal Haines among others. Her regular duo, Resonance, with tuba maestro, Mark Weaver, released their debut CD on Plutonium Records and was featured in Weekly Alibi’s “Best of 2009.” For this performance Littlefield is joined by Claudio Tolousse Pérez, guitar; Mark Weaver; tuba; Carlin Venaglia, drums.
